The El Retiro Park was built in the early 1600s, and for centuries it was a private park that only Spanish monarchs were allowed to enter. However, Carlos III, one of the most loved and respected kings of Spain's history, made the park public and opened its doors to all the citizens.
The park has more than 350 acres and has more than 15.000 trees, so you will need a guide to discover all the treasures in it! We will take you to the big lake, the rose garden, the Crystal Palace, and the statue of the Fallen Angel - the only statue in the world that represents the devil!
If you're an art-lover and you like museums, this is probably one of the reasons that brought you to Spain! The Prado Museum is the temple of Spanish art, and this is where its most important masterpieces are kept. Outside the museum, the statues of Velázquez, Goya and Murillo, two of the grandest artists of all time, watch the three museum's doors: don't miss a selfie with each of them!

Your guide will be waiting for you to start the second part of the tour next to the El Oso y el Madroño statue, at the Puerta del Sol. This is one of the most famous places of Madrid, where the locals gather to welcome the New Year.
From here, you will start exploring the old town of Madrid, also called the Madrid of the Habsburgs, the name of the dynasty that brought the city to its highest splendor.
Royalty may get a little hazy, so we will explain where the Habsburgs come from at the world famous Chocolateria San Gines. You can stay focused while enjoying the best churros and chocolate of Madrid!
After this express visit to the sweetest spot in Madrid, you will learn all about the Habsburg Madrid and the imperial buildings with your expert guide. Walk past the legacy that left Charles I, and marble at how Philip II brought splendor to Madrid when he turned it into the Royal center of power in Spain.
